Message from Alpha’s Chairman:
Joining the investment team at Alpha is a unique experience within the University of Groningen. As the leading student investment organization in Groningen, we not only manage our own portfolio but also connect with professionals across various industries, including hedge funds, venture capital, and consulting. Alongside these valuable learning opportunities, we host social events for members every three weeks, complete with complimentary drinks. Being part of the Groningen Investment Team is about much more than investing—it’s a chance for ambitious, like-minded students from across the university to connect, collaborate, and pursue their goals together.
A typical evening at Alpha includes:
- Macro Update: We start with a discussion on recent economic and stock market developments to keep the team informed on global trends.
- Portfolio Update: Our treasurer provides a performance summary, benchmarking our monthly results against the global economy.
- Stock Review: Team control members update us on individual stocks in the portfolio, along with relevant news impacting each holding.
- Pitches for New Investments: In a standard meeting, 2-3 sub-teams present pitches for potential new stocks or options.
- Team Vote: Finally, the team votes on each pitch, deciding whether to add these new investments to our portfolio.
- Lastly the team gets treated to complementary free drinks where you can socialize and get to meet your peers from the other teams as well.
